At Computer Aid Kenya, we’re thrilled to share a milestone in our Mombasa Digital Schools initiative! Last week, we brought digital access to three remote schools in Kwale County—Muungano Comprehensive, Sakake Comprehensive, and Mbele Secondary School—all located in areas without reliable electricity. Thanks to solar-powered laptops, these students are now connected to the digital world for the first time.
Why This Matters
In underserved regions, lack of electricity and technology creates a steep barrier to education. Our solution? Sustainable, solar-powered digital classrooms that ensure:
✅ 24/7 access to learning resources—even off-grid
✅ Interactive, projector-enhanced lessons across all subjects
✅ Printed study materials (via donated printers) for continued learning at home
This initiative is a powerful step toward bridging the digital divide and empowering Kenya’s next generation with equitable opportunities.
How We Made It Happen
This transformative project was made possible through collaboration with incredible partners:
🔹 The Joy Fund (led by Mike Libecki) for championing solar innovation
🔹 Dell Technologies for providing cutting-edge devices
🔹 CHOICE Humanitarian for mobilizing schools and local coordination
🔸 Computer Aid Kenya for on-ground implementation and teacher training
What’s Next?
We’re just getting started! With proven success in Kwale, we’re scaling this model to more off-grid schools—one county at a time.
